Vernon Arthur Schneider, age 88, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society – Albert Lea. Vernon was born on May 17, 1935, in Albert Lea to Arthur Emil and Martha Amanda (Flugum) Schneider. He attended country school and graduated from Austin High School. Vernon was united in marriage to June Elaine Ruesink on November 7, 1964, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. He worked in home sales and worked for many years selling furniture at various showrooms he owned. Vernon, along with his sister, Maxine, owned the Austin Motel from 1992-2008. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham. Vernon was a very creative man who had an admirable work ethic. Together Vernon and June fostered many children. He had such a huge heart and would help and take in anyone who needed assistance. Vernon also enjoyed fishing, traveling with June and his mother, and selling Christmas trees on the side. He will be forever missed.
Vernon is survived by his sisters, Maxine Bruemmer of Elgin, Eldora Barber of Dodge Center, and Marion Schneider of Waltham; sisters-in-law, Tamara Schneider of Waltham, Darlene Schneider of Albert Lea, Pat Dormady of Alameda, CA, Beverly “Bev” Ruesink of Preston, and Lola (Michael) Nelson of Greendale, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, especially Tim Parkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Martha; wife, June; brothers, Melford and Art Schneider; sister-in-law, Mae Schneider; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Barber, and Keith Bruemmer.
