Thomas Luke Mallan

Thomas Luke Mallan, age 59, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, St. Marys Campus. Thomas was born on February 24, 1964, in Austin, Minnesota, to Henry and Dorothy (Wimmer) Mallan. Tom attended Pacelli High School. Following high school, Tom attended Austin Vo-Tech for cabinetmaking and then worked for Libby’s as a forklift driver. Tom, diagnosed with autism, was the ultimate kid at heart; he loved putting together model cars and enjoyed collecting models and Hot Wheel cars. Tom was quite a jokester; he loved to heckle at every opportunity. Tom was a kind person who seldom had a harsh word to say and was always thankful to others for their help and kindness. Tom will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his twin sister, Theresa (Patrick) O’Connor of St. Paul; siblings, Robert Mallan of Rochester, Steven Mallan of Austin, Cathy Mallan of Austin, Roger Mallan of Austin, Kevin Mallan of Austin, Duane Mallan of Austin, Virginia Baumann of Mason City, Iowa, and Michael (Sandy) Mallan of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy; sister, LaVonne Mallan; and sisters-in-law, Donna and Betty Mallan.

Tom’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Tom’s many wonderful service providers and St Mary’s Hospital staff at MB-6F, for their care and support for Tom and our family.

The memorial service for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Crane Community Chapel in Austin. The visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin after the reception. Mayer-Hoff Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
