Stanley Michael Coughlin, age 62, of Austin, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Stan was born February 6, 1949 in Owatonna to Michael and Martha (Deml) Coughlin. He grew up on a farm north of Maple Island and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1967. He then attended Winona State. After working on the railroad for a few years, he worked at Viking Chemical in Blooming Prairie for over 30 years. Stan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newry and St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He was a lifetime member of the Austin Jaycees, worked on Austin's 4th of July Festival for 20 years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Stan was an on-line graduate certified locksmith. Stan enjoyed making fireworks, rockets and homemade beer. He was an avid reader of anything history or Irish related, and enjoyed traveling to Ireland. Survivors include his daughter, Shelly Bergstrom, Austin; brother, Barry (Theresa) Coughlin, Albert Lea; sister, Maureen (Dick) Milberger, Brookston; grandchildren, Tanner, Deona, Michael; former spouse, Elizabeth Coughlin; former spouse, Ann McGee; special friend, Kathy Young; nieces, nephews and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phillip; son, Anthony "Tony" Coughlin. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am on Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 pm KC rosary on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 pm. The casket bearers will be Duane Hansen, Patrick "Buckwheat" Cochlin, Galen Spinler, Lonnie Skalicky, Jerry Viktora, Larry Knutson.
