Stanley Lawrence Kjarland

Stanley “Stan” Lawrence Kjarland, age 77, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society - Comforcare in Austin. He was born on September 10, 1947, in Decorah, Iowa, to Ingvold and Emma (Zeien) Kjarland. Stan graduated from Austin High School and went on to attend Austin Vocational Technical Institute until he was accepted into the carpenters’ union. He then went on to run his own construction company, Kjarland Builders, until the late 1980’s. During that time, he also provided for his family by working for Hormel for a time. After closing Kjarland Builders, he worked for various construction companies, most recently working for Cottage Home Industries as a construction manager, building townhomes throughout the state. On June 24, 1967, he married Sandra Dale at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple were blessed with two children and were happily married until Sandra’s passing in 2002. On February 1, 2005, Stan married Debra Benson in Kona, Hawaii, on the beach. Stan enjoyed building things, woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family, especially chasing around his grandchildren. Stan was known to help many people with his carpentry skills and used them to serve the Lord in the churches he attended, including the renovation of the Terp Ballroom into a church.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Kjarland of Austin; sons, Quien Kjarland of Austin, and Chad (Rhonda) Kjarland of Eden Prairie; stepchildren, Jessica (Sean Cedotal) Iverson, and Alexander (Mim) Reinhart; grandchildren, Cole Kjarland, Carissa (Kevin) Anderson, Christopher Kjarland, Mariah (Kevin Lee) Iverson, Joshua Iverson, Torin Reinhart, Freya Reinhart, and Ursa Reinhart; one great-grandchild, Leona Anderson who is on the way; siblings, Ileen (Steve) Olson, Judy (Kevin) Thovson, Arlan (Carolyn) Kjarland, Vicki (Tom) Markham, and Randy (Diane) Kjarland; good friends, Dave Peterson, Steve Olson and Kenny O’Leary; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvold and Emma Kjarland; and his first wife, Sandra Kjarland.

A funeral service for Stanley will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society or donor’s choice. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
