Roy James Olson

Roy James Olson, age 85, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease with his family by his side. Roy was born on April 6, 1939, in Grass Lake Township, Minnesota, near Mora, to Henry Olson and Eunice Houchin. At 17 he enlisted in the United States Army where he was a truck driver and mechanic in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he drove truck for all his working years. Roy drove for Jolly Manufacturing, Murphy Motor Freight, and retired after 26 years from Yellow Freight Systems. On June 19, 1964, Roy was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Nelson, at the United Methodist Church in Blooming Prairie. The couple was married for 60 years. Together they enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and cruising, and 20 winters in Arizona making wonderful friends. He truly loved his children and grandchildren and would have loved his new great-granddaughter, Scottie Louise. 

Roy is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Ray (Jodi) Olson; daughter, Leah (Troy) Percell; granddaughter, Sidni (Shawn) Styer; grandson, Riley (Nicole) Olson; great-granddaughter, Scottie Louise Olson; half-brother, Harold Moser; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eunice; and siblings, Margaret Nelson, and Carl and Robert Olson. 

The memorial service for Roy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. The visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie Cemetery. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home of Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
