Rose M. Deutschman, 98, of Austin, died Monday, April 07, 2014 at the Adams Health Care Center. She was born on September 5, 1915, in Red Lake Falls, MN, the daughter of John and Martha (Adler) Deutschman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Rose graduated from Lafayette High School in 1933. She went on to the University of Minnesota graduating in 1936 with a BS degree and later earned a master’s degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She began teaching school in Lebanon, ND for one year; Janesville, MN for three years; and Wadena, MN for six years. She then taught mathematics at the High School and Middle School in Austin, for 32 years where she continued to make her home after retiring. Rose traveled in Europe, Mexico and the United States. She enjoyed many hobbies, spending time with family and friends at her lake home and camping. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. Rose volunteered at a variety of church and community functions over the years. Rose is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Paul Schirrick, brothers, Richard and Walter and a sister Margaret Broderick. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
