Richard Luverne Pacholl, age 90, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. Richard was born to Joseph and Marie (Weaks) Pacholl on November 13, 1934, in Austin, Minnesota. In 1953, he graduated from Austin High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Richard then continued his education at Graphic Arts Institute where he received a degree in printing.
On August 23, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Pesch at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. The couple made their home in Austin, where they raised their five children and became longtime members of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Richard briefly worked at Austin Printing before entering the military. After his discharge from the service, he began his 35-year career as a pressman for the Austin Daily Herald.
Richard was a very accomplished vocalist, serving as a soloist in the Gary Owens Army Choir and performing at weddings and funerals. He even had records of his music and would often sing along to the radio, making every song his own. Richard also enjoyed woodworking and reading in his free time.
Richard was a valued member of the Austin community. His passion for community service led him to become President of the Austin Jesters, where he participated in parades and raised funds for the Austin Jesters Scholarship, helping local students further their education. Richard was actively involved with Boy Scouts Troop 113, earning the Silver Scout Award for his dedication. He also generously sponsored various troops through the Knights of Columbus, a group he was proud to be a member of. Additionally, Richard served his community as a city councilman for five terms, during which he made a lasting impact on the lives of many residents.
Survivors include his sons, Steve (Colette) Pacholl of Fridley, Minnesota, Scott Pacholl and Tim Pacholl, both of Austin; daughter, Catherine “Cathy” (Jeff) Truebenbach of Crane Lake, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerry (Cheryl) Pesch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Pacholl; wife, Mary in 2017; daughter, Susan Stephenson; brother, Dean Pacholl; brothers-in-law, Donald, Richard, Glenn, Robert, and William Pesch; and sister-in-law, Rose Flagg.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota with Father Thien Nguyen officiating. The visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin and will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or recipient of donor’s choice.
