Richard Keating

Richard J. Keating, 85, of Austin, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Dick was born in St. Paul on April 20, 1930 to Melba Keating. He attended Catholic school in Austin and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1948. After graduation he started his 42 year career at Hormel Foods in Austin MN. He spent most of his time at Hormel working in the Pipe Shop as a pipefitter, steamfitter and master plumber. Dick served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp from 1950 to 1954 and was also a member of the Army National Guard for 22 years. Dick married Helen Wilson on February 3, 1951 at St. Augustine Church in Austin, MN. After retiring from Hormel Foods he continued his education by attending Austin Community College and Winona State University. Dick was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Austin American Legion Post #91. He loved attending local sporting events. Dick was a founding member of the Austin Pistol Club. He enjoyed hunting and attending community plays. Dick also served 2 terms on the St Augustine School Board and was active in the Pacelli High School Booster Club. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; sons, Dan (Mary) Keating of Mayville, ND, Russell (Mary) Keating of Rochester, MN, Jerry (Sherry) Keating of Lonsdale, MN; daughter, Laura Keating of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Craig, Mike, Jason (Amanda), Jennifer Keating, Nathan (Deb Franzen) Keating, Erica (Ryan) Kalmes; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Keating and Cora Keating. Dick is preceded in death by his mother. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Mayer Funeral Home and again an hour prior to the mass on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with the Austin American Legion Post #91 providing Military Gravesite Rites.
