Richard "Dick" William Cummings

Richard “Dick” William Cummings, age 89, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Cedars Assisted Living in Austin, with his loving family by his side. Dick was born on April 6, 1935, in Austin to Edward and Elsie Cummings. He graduated from Austin High School in 1954. Dick served in the United States Air Force from August 9, 1954, until January 29, 1958, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. Dick was united in marriage in 1958 to Ruby Wiyninger. Ruby died on December 19, 1996. On May 30, 1997, Dick married Dellene Waldron Anderson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. 

Dick was manager of the engineering department at American Can Company for 35 years and retired in 1999. Dick resided in the Burnsville, MN area from 1975 until 2000 and then returned to Austin. Dick and Dellene wintered in Florida beginning in 1999 until 2018. Dick loved traveling, shopping, tinkering with anything mechanical, playing shuffleboard, walking, bicycling, dancing, and karaoke; but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion Club. 

Survivors include his wife, Dellene Anderson Cummings of Austin, MN; children, Rinda Etter of International Falls, MN and Randall (Kelly) Cummings of Lakeville, MN; stepchildren, Jody (Larry) Maricle of Austin, MN, Shelly Olson of Austin, MN, Brian (Melissa) Anderson of Austin, Eric (Nicole) Anderson of Austin, MN, and David (Nicole) Anderson of Austin, MN; brother, Edward (Deanna) Cummings of Austin, MN; brother-in-law, Jerry Kittleson of Rochester, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elsie Cummings; first wife, Ruby Cummings; granddaughter, Holly Etter; grandson, Derek Olson; sisters, Lois Yocum and Betty Fossey; brother-in-law, Glenn Blackie Yocum; sister-in-law, Marjean Kittleson. 

A memorial service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, and Greenwood Cemetery, Talmoon, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or recipient of donor’s choice. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin.
