Ramon Salinas, age 59, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by many loving family on Saturday, May 9, 2020, after a four-year battle with cancer. Ramon was a fighter and fought cancer on his terms. His family and friends supported him through the battle of cancer. He entered heaven as a champion.
Ramon was born November 10, 1960 in Dimmitt, Texas, to Juan and Matilda (Lopez) Salinas. He attended school in Plainview, Texas. In 1984, Ramon moved to Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, where he stayed the rest of his years. He worked at Koster’s Car Korner in Blooming Prairie for 29 years, doing body work on vehicles. Ramon was well known for auto-body repair and had a strong passion for it.
Ramon loved spending time with his grandchildren and liked to spend his afternoons with his family watching his favorite tv shows Judge Judy, Family Matters and Mike and Molly. He enjoyed bonfires, dancing, listening to Tejano music, and never missed a street dance. Ramon was very sociable and loved walking around town talking to people. Over the years he collected NASCAR items and Native American miscellaneous. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Viking’s and never missed a game. Ramon always had a way of bringing laughter into the room! His favorite catch phrases were “Yo Baby Yo” and “My way or the highway,” if you heard them you knew Ramon was around. He was loved by his family and friends. As they say, “Everybody loves Ramon!!”
Survivors include his mother, Matilda Salinas of Kress, TX; significant other, Susan Silva; four children; nine step-children; many grandchildren; siblings, Linda Juarez of Tulia, TX, Rogelio “Roy” (Deb) Salinas of Austin, MN, Mary (Fidel) Torres of Kress, TX, Roberto (Gloria) Salinas of Blooming Prairie, MN, Christina (Angel) Valentin of Kress, TX, Yolanda (Tony) Morales of Kress, TX; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Salinas; brother, Ramiro “Ram” Salinas; step-son, Oscar Martinez; and niece, Linda Torres.
Private family interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery, Blooming Prairie. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
