Phyllis Claudine (Peters) Waldron, age 95, of Rosemount, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at Rosemount Senior Living.
Phyllis was born May 18, 1929, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Hugo and Tina (Johnson) Peters. She attended Washington Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, and Monroe Jr High, all in Mason City, Iowa. She started at Austin High School in 9th grade, graduating in 1947.
On August 8, 1949, she married Rodney Wayne Waldron, and the couple was married for 47 years until his passing in 1996. Phyllis’ first jobs were working for the Mower County Attorney’s Office while in high school and then at the CMSTP&P Railroad (Milwaukee Road) after graduation until 1950. She worked at the Austin VoTech Institute (Riverland College) from September 1961 until retiring as the Executive Secretary to the Director in June 1990. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Phyllis enjoyed volunteering as the daytime receptionist at church – especially doing computer work – and taking part in the W.E.L.C.A committees for Scandinavian days. She also was a hospice volunteer, served as a membership chairman for the AHS Alumni & Friends Association and volunteered at the Chauncey Apartments doing computer work, making posters and creating the newsletter.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Debbie) of Mankato; two daughters, Claudia (Tim) Braun of Apple Valley, and Kristin (Chad) Schmitt of Apple Valley; seven grandchildren, Schelle (Chad) Dahlke, Thomas (Ashlee Abrantes) Braun, Andrew (Amanda) Braun, Samantha South, Matthew (Veronika) Schmitt, Micah (Emily) Schmitt, and Eli Schmitt; and eleven great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kenley, Faraday, Noether, Walter, Anderson, Jack, Will, Ben, Joe, and Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rodney Waldron; father, Hugo Claus Peters; mother, Tina Amanda Förli/Johnson (Dillabough) (Peters) (Tyler) Kahler; brother, Harris Dillabough; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Kris Ferkin officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or donor’s choice. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
