Omer Milo Wangen, age 90, of Austin, died Friday, July 22, 2016 at Our House Memory Care in Austin. Omer was born February 6, 1926 in Hayward, Minnesota to Knute and Ellen Wangen. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and Colorado State University where he remained for two more years in Graduate School. On September 2, 1950 he married Geraldine Adair at Pauline Chapel, Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Omer worked at Hormel Foods for thirty years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Omer was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also a very enthusiastic outdoorsman. Survivors include his wife, Geri; daughter, Karen Freese; sons, David (Lori), Paul (Robin); six grandchildren, Ellen (Aaron) Goslee, Jessica Freese, Jared Freese, Mat (Heather) Wangen, Katie (Zachary) Johnson, and Anthony Wangen; seven great grandchildren; sister, Elnora; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luther and Robert; sisters, Benetta and Gladys; son-in-law, Thomas Freese. A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors.
