Maxine Laack

Maxine Lela (Bly) Laack, age 90, of Austin, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Cedars of Austin. Maxine was born July 12, 1925 in Austin to Alvia and Johanna (Lang) Bly. She grew up in Austin. Later the family moved to Oregon for a few years. Maxine returned to Austin by train where she met the love of her life, Emil Laack, on a blind date and six months later they were married on March 22, 1947. To this union, three children were born, Sandra, Emil “Butch”, and Bruce. The couple lived their entire life in Austin where Maxine was a homemaker. They also had a cabin in Winter, Wisconsin where they visited relatives. Maxine and Emil were married 62 years when Emil passed away in 2008. Maxine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. She enjoyed birds, seeing the deer come into her yard eating from her apple trees, sewing, flowers, canning, gardening, road trips in the motorhome, traveling, and bus trips to the casino with her daughter, Sandra and family and friends. When company came, Maxine always loved being the hostess. She would always greet you with a hug and kiss and the same when you left. Maxine loved God. She was a very kind and caring person always concerned about everyone. Survivors include her children, Sandra Rumsey, Austin, MN, Emil “Butch” (Linda) Laack, Austin, MN, Bruce Laack, London, MN; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Tabor, Austin, MN; sister-in-law, Donna Grage, Austin, MN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Audrey Grage and Hank Grage, Devine, TX; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Emil; two grandsons, Darrick Laack and Alexander Laack; parents; one brother; four sisters. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
