Max D. Minnich, age 91, of Austin, went to be with his maker on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Max was born March 15, 1929 to John Guy and Edna Rose (Ridgeway) Minnich in Coon Rapids, Iowa. During the depression, the family moved to Minnesota. Max graduated in 1947 from Grand Meadow High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force serving in the Korean War for four years. After returning home he lived in California. Max attended Santa Monica City College. He later returned to Minnesota working at iron mines in Spring Valley. On October 20, 1961 he married Marlys Cooling at the Methodist Church in Grand Meadow. Max worked for Austin Utilities for 28 years retiring in 1992. He and Marlys spent many winters in Branson, MO where he loved to trout fish. Fishing was his favorite hobby along with golfing and hunting. Max loved his family and seeing the grand and great grand kids. Max will be sadly missed. He was a longtime member of Lansing Methodist Church and a more recent member of First United Methodist Church in Austin. Max was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Eagles. Survivors include his wife, Marlys; daughters, Polly (Todd) Eggenberger, Penne (Dennis) Steinhorst, Pam Minnich; son, Scott (Jan) Minnich; step son, Eric (Patti) Lindgren; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy, Doug, Harley; sister, Jolle. He is preceded in death by his son, Guy; parents, John and Edna; brothers, Everett, Thomas, John; sisters, Gertrude, Ruth, Ila, Kate; in laws, Alvin and Hazel Cooling; brothers-in-law, Don and Roger; sister-in-law, Shirley Hamborg.
