Marjorie Joyce (Hill) Bartholmey, age 61 of Adams, Minnesota, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at her home. Marj was born to John and Gloria Hill in Austin Minnesota on November 4, 1957. She grew up on the family dairy farm outside of Adams, Minnesota where she learned the value of hard work. From her experiences, she shared many treasured memories of her time riding horses. Marj graduated from Southland High School in 1975. After high school she attended Rochester Technical School to become a medical clerical secretary.
On January, 27 1979, she married Kevin “Bart” Bartholmey at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They recently celebrated 40 years together. Marj and Bart made their home in Adams where they were blessed with 3 girls; Lora, Amanda, and Jennifer.
Marj worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a medical secretary for 10 years and together, she and her husband owned and operated Bart’s Clubhouse in Adams. In 1987, she opened Marj’s Daycare where she cared for many children from the area who would come back to visit her. Marj loved children and worked as a paraprofessional for the Southland Early Childhood Program until 2014 when her health declined.
In her spare time, Marj enjoyed a passion for quilting. She had a gift for stitching and created hundreds of amazing quilts. She equally enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, traveling with her husband, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Blessed to have shared in her life are; Kevin, her husband of 40 years, her mother; Gloria Hill of Adams, MN, daughters and son-in-laws; Lora (Dan) Nelson, Wilmont, MN, Amanda (Ramon) Cartagena, Rushmore, MN, Jennifer (Clint) Purkapile, Albert Lea, MN; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother John D. Hill, Barb (Lowell) Franzen, sister-in-law Vickie Hill, Duane (Lorie) Hill, brother-in-law Brian (Deb) Bartholmey, Jean (Al) Heimer, Jill (Todd) Peterson, Dawn (Dan) Musial, Ann (Kim) Dublin, and many nieces and nephews. Marj was preceded in death by her Dad, John Hill, brother David Hill, and her mother and father in law; Duane and Ethel Bartholmey.
She asked her family to extend a special thank you to Nancy Decker, Bette Schmitz, and Rachel Young for, “Always being there for her”.
Her family invites you to honor Marj with a celebration of life on Sunday, July 7 from noon until 4 pm at the family home in Adams.
