Marilyn Verdeen Koch, age 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin. She was born on November 17, 1935 in Simla, Colorado to Alfred and Aletha (Kane) Bales. Marilyn graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1953. On April 23, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage to Harlan Koch in Colorado Springs, CO. Harlan and Marilyn made their home in Austin, MN, where she raised the couple’s three children, Brenda, Doug, and Denise. In addition, Marilyn also worked at Fantles Department Store and a local hallmark store once her children were older. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, reading- especially romance novels, dancing, and watching old movies. Marilyn was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed coffee and spending time with her friends. She loved football, her team was the Minnesota Vikings (when they were playing well, haha) and the Denver Broncos. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Brenda Tabor of Austin, MN, Doug Koch of Eden Prairie, MN, and Denise Slack of Austin, MN; grandchildren, Savannah, Natalie, Nicholas, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Bennett. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Harlan; parents, Alfred and Aletha; and siblings, Merle, Marvin, Alvin, and Rogene.
A memorial gathering for Marilyn will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, MN. The family invites you to share your memories with them during the memorial gathering. A private family interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to the National or Minnesota Multiple Sclerosis Society. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
