Marie (Graves) Brown

Marie M. (Graves) Brown, age 81 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 3, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, surrounded by her loving family. Marie Margaret Jorgenson was born on April 1, 1938 in Austin, Minnesota, to Nels and Alice (Carew) Jorgenson. She grew up in Austin and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1956. On February 1, 1958, Marie married Gilbert Graves at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. The couple moved to Elkton, Minnesota, where Marie helped Gilbert on their farm, and they raised eight children together. Gilbert passed away in October of 2009. Along with helping on the farm, Marie worked at Meadow Manor in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, as a nursing assistant from 1970 until 2000 when she retired. On March 31, 2012, she married Carroll Brown at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, and they lived in Austin. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and Sacred Heart Church in Adams, where she was an active Circle member. Marie belonged to the Red Hat Club, TOPS, and the Elkton Project Club. She loved to travel and go on many beloved trips with her family and friends, including trips to Las Vegas, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Canada, and all across the United States. Marie loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and spending time with them. Marie also enjoyed quilting and cross stitching. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll Brown of Austin, MN; children, Cheryl (Dick) Nold of Oronoco, MN, Sheila (Bill) McBride of Preston, MN, Sylvia (Larry) Churchill of Grand Meadow, MN, Christopher Graves of North Mankato, MN, Ann (Jerry) Johnson of Brooklyn Center, MN, Peter (Tracy) Graves of Blooming Prairie, MN, Joey Graves of Elkton, MN, Kevin (Kathryn) Graves of St. Peter, MN; 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother, Jim Jorgenson of Austin, MN; sister, Sue Jorgenson of Bloomington, MN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Jorgenson of Austin, MN; brother-in-law, Ray (Pat) Graves of Elkton, MN; Carroll’s children, Michelle (Gene) Caleb of Urbandale, Iowa, Lori (Brian) Ronayne of Wyoming, MN, Judi (Larry) Brown-Rohm of Lindstrom, MN; Carroll’s brothers, Ozie (Jan) Brown of Austin, MN, Duane (Joan) Brown of Florida; Carroll’s sisters, Dorothy (Dean) Naylor of Butte, Montana, Leila (Dan) Schmidt of Austin, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Alice Jorgenson; 1st husband, Gilbert Graves; sisters, Shirley Williamson, Betty Engelman; brothers, Nels Jorgenson, Dick Jorgenson; and several in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with a rosary service to follow at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will take place at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Adams. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
