Luella Hatteberg

Luella Hatteberg, age 95 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. She was born August 14th, 1925, in Owatonna to Irvin, Sr. and Myrtle (Ditlevson) Jensen.

She grew up on a farm near Hope, MN. A true farm girl she helped milk the cows and did the field work. Luella attended grade school at District 76 Country School, and then attended school in Ellendale, MN. On June 21, 1945, she married William “Bud” Kahnke and together had two children, Carole and David. They later divorced. In March of 1977, she married Kenneth Hatteberg and became stepmom to his eight children.  Luella worked as a bank teller, first at the Bank of Hope, and then at Farmers & Merchants Bank of Blooming Prairie. She retired in 1990.

Luella enjoyed bowling league, traveling by tour bus with Kenny and her morning and afternoon “coffee ladies”, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and her little dog Buffy.  She always tried to attend all her grandchildren’s events. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Waltham, and the American Legion.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole (Wayne) Hertle; son, David (Nancy) Kahnke; grandchildren, Josh (Teresa) Hertle, Zach (Kelly) Hertle, and Emily Kahnke; great grandchildren, Riley, Allie, and Oliver; 8 stepchildren, Deane, Merlyn, Denise, Bruce (Maureen), Jeanette (Marty), Kurt (Sue), Barry, and Rebecca (Jeff); 7 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathy Jensen; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; parents; brother, Irvin Jensen, Jr.; and sister, Meryl Nuzlock.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Visitation will take place from 11:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie.
