Lois Ann Taphorn, age 77, passed away peacefully October 22, 2019 at Reflections – End of Life Care in Northfield, MN. Lois was a resident of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota at the time of passing. Lois was born July 28, 1942 in Carroll, Iowa; the daughter of Arnold and Agatha (Brincks) Hackfort. She graduated in 1959 from Kuemper High School, Carroll, IA. Lois was united in marriage to Robert John Taphorn on January 26, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey, IA. Robert and Lois lived in Odebolt, IA until 1968 and then moved to the Blooming Prairie area where she has lived ever since. Together they raised four children. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Lois worked as an office assistant for Contel/Frontier Communications in Blooming Prairie, MN for many years; later in her career she worked as a travel agent for Sterling Travel, Austin, MN where she was able leverage to her passion for travel. Lois was a member of the St. Columbanus Catholic Church where she was active in the Council of Catholic Women and the parish council, and served as the church “flower lady”. Lois hobbies over the years consisted of gardening, flower arrangements, and decorating, sewing/quilting, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. Lois was much loved and will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Lois is survived by her four children and their spouses; Debbie (Anthony) Wessel New Hope MN; Mike Taphorn Blooming Prairie MN; Jeff (Melissa) Taphorn Apple Valley, MN; Patrick Taphorn Owatonna, MN her three grandchildren – Ian Wessel, Taryn Wessel, and Jeremy Carnicelli; and her siblings Joan Becker - Carroll, IA; Betty (Marvin) Huegerich - Carroll, IA; Colleen Steffes - Carroll, IA; Doreen Stueve - Carroll, IA; Mary (Wayne) Pluckhahn - Lakeview, IA; Robert (Sue) Hackfort - Arcadia, IA; Nancy Gach - Carroll, IA; John (Linda) Hackfort - Carrol, IA; Daniel (Janice) Hackfort - Carrol, IA, Karen (John) Kerkhoff - Templeton, IA; and Bill (Marcia) Hackfort - Panora, IA and sister-in-laws Linda Hackfort - Carrol, IA; Karen Bruch-Hackfort, New London, WI and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Agatha Hackfort, husband Robert Taphorn, brothers Joseph Hackfort, Eugene Hanckfort, David Hackfort, and granddaughter Katrina Wessel.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery, Blooming Prairie. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the St Columbanus Parking Lot fund. Services are prearranged and performed with Worlein Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie.
