Judith Mcdermott

Judith McDermott, age 69 of Austin, MN died Saturday June 17th at Prairie Manor nursing home Blooming Prairie, MN. Judy was born Nov, 2 1947 in Austin, MN to Doris and John (Mick) McDermott. Judy grew up in Austin and graduated in 1965 from Pacelii high school. She went to college at St. Teresa’s in Winona. Judy was a freelance editor for the Austin Daily Herald for 21 years. She then worked at Pearson’s in Owatonna as a graphic designer until her retirement in 2014. Judy had many gifts and talents; she was a wonderful artist and made and designed jewelry. Judy was known for her beautiful garden and her knowledge on the subject of gardening. She was always generous in sharing her flowers, plants and herbs with others. Her backyard was a beautiful oasis. Judy loved to cook and loved trying different recipes. She was the family historian for both sides of her family. She loved to travel, especially to Rome, Italy where her brother Michael and his family lived. Judy had a warm way about her and made everyone feel special. She had a fondness for cats and took in many strays over the years. She was survived by two cats Poppy and Rosie. A trip to Judy’s home was an adventure. She had an ecelectic taste that took you from one thing to another. She loved to tell you the reason behind whatever your eyes were drawn to. She had a large collection of books that covered all topics of interest. Judy is on her next Journey and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She had the best friends, neighbors, classmates, and loved ones who has such love and concern for her throughout her illness. We her family saw this and appreciate you all more that you will ever know. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Doris and John McDermott, brother Michael McDermott and his wife Louise. She is survived by her Nieces, Eliza Jones and Iris Jones. Nephews, Griffith Jones and Alexander Jones. Cousins Jim McDermott, Caron Jafodzinski, John (Lori) McDermott, Patrick (Erin) Donahoe, Tim (Karen) McDermott, Patrick(Annette) McDermott, Frank (Ann)Korth, Glen (Patti) Cole, John (Katie) Loxtercamp and Leroy (Laurie) Lierman. Memorials for Judy can be made to; American Diabetes Association, PBC research American Liver Foundation, The Humane Society or any Rescue organization of your choice.
