Joyce Kathleen Sizer, born in Butterfield, a longtime resident of Austin, passed peacefully at home in the presence of loved ones on June 13, 2015. Joyce took great pride in her skill and expertise as a secretary and office manager. She worked for a period of time at the old Scheid Plumbing before beginning employment as an executive secretary at Hormel Corporate Office, retiring from there after 19 years. Upon retirement, Joyce found her true calling and true passion volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem in the Mower County court system. For more than 10 years, she was a voice and advocate for children who suffered in situations of abuse and neglect. Joyce enjoyed an outstanding reputation in the legal and social services communities and, when necessary, she would march through hell and back for the kids she represented. Joyce was extremely proud of raising two wonderful boys, both of whom embarked on successful law enforcement careers, one with Minneapolis Police and the other with the Hennepin County Sheriff. Survivors include her sons, Steven (Mary) and Brent (Mandy); grandchildren Charley (Melissa), Amy, Tim (Jessica), Jim; great grandchildren Hannav, Roby, Declan, Lydia and Peyton. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating. Visitation will be on the day of service, beginning at 8:30 am (one hour prior to mass). Burial will be private.
