Jose Villareal Peña

Jose Villareal Peña, age 92 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Owatonna Hospital – Allina Health in Owatonna, Minnesota. Jose was born in Floresville, Texas to Jose and Felecia (Villareal) Peña on November 12, 1929. He grew up and attended school in Floresville. Jose married Natividad Garza and made their home in Plainview, Texas where they farmed and raised their six children. The couple later moved to Blooming Prairie, Minnesota where they raised their four grandchildren. Jose and Natividad shared 68 years together. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and watching baseball. Jose had a big sweet tooth and loved his dogs. He also loved being outdoors and in his younger years enjoyed going fishing. Family was everything to Jose and he always looked forward to seeing his grandchildren. Jose will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Natividad Peña of Blooming Prairie, MN; children, Henry (Carmen) Peña of Houston, TX, Jose Peña, Jr. of Faribault, MN, Andres Peña of Plainview, TX, Ramon (Annette Balzer) Peña of Owatonna, MN, and Felix (Diana) Peña of Owatonna, MN; 24 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Felecia Peña; daughter, Margaret (Augustine) Peña Reyna; grandson, Augustine Reyna Jr.; 4 brothers; and 1 sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie with a rosary service starting at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery in Blooming Prairie. Masks will be required at the services. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
