John Dean Bernard Olson, age 92 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System Austin. John Dean was born April 12, 1927, to John Alfred and Helma (Siblerud) Olson of Hartland, Minnesota. He graduated from Freeborn High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1945. He was discharged with an honorable discharge in August of 1946. On June 9, 1951, he married Jacqueline Ann Oliver of Waseca, Minnesota. He was employed as a finish carpenter with Blowers Construction, Waterville, Minnesota. In 1962, he moved to Blooming Prairie and was employed by Lysne Construction Company until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, he worked summers at the Blooming Prairie Country Club. John Dean was a member of the Blooming Prairie Planning and Zoning, as well as Legion Post 52 and St. Columbanus Catholic Church where he served on the parish council and was an active member of the KC’s. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John Dean is survived by his wife Jacqueline Olson of Blooming Prairie, MN; three children, Christine (Rick) Klemmensen, Jon (Gretchen) Olson, and Jan Anderson, all of Blooming Prairie; grandchildren, Tricia (Karl) Steckelberg, Jill (Nathan) Lindeman, Jay (Jamie) Klemmensen, Chad (Tamora) Klemmensen, Ariana (Nathan) Finholdt, Aric Olson, Ryan (Mariah) Foudray, Jennifer (Ryan) Born, Mark (Lisa) Anderson, Christopher (Rena) Anderson, Aaron (Angela) Anderson; great grandchildren, Alexis and Grady Steckelberg, Cole and Isabel Lindeman, Andi, Bergen and Bailee Klemmensen, Trig and Nala Klemmensen, Kaden, Karsen and Libbie Finholdt, Miles, Cedric and Carmella Foudray, Emma and Blake Born, Abigael, Ava and Evan Anderson, Lydia Behringer-Vien, Landon and Everly Anderson; two sisters, Audrene Smith of New Richland, MN, Audrey Bethke of Pinckney, MI; two sisters-in-law, Irene Oliver of Waseca, MN, Tommie Sotebeer of Windom, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and one son-in-law, David Anderson.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota with Father Thomas Niehaus officiating. Visitation will be held from 8:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery in Blooming Prairie, with military honors by the Blooming Prairie Honor Guard. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
