Our beloved mother, Jan Fay Macal, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin, Minnesota.
Jan was born on May 17, 1940, to Lloyd and Fay Fennell, and grew up with one brother, Jay, in Austin. She grew up loving waterskiing, the outdoors, and her horse named Reno.
She married Ron Macal and settled in Austin where they had three children.
Jan loved her home, the outdoors, and organizing anything and everything. She enjoyed camping with family and swimming, even after her stroke.
She was a lifeguard and swim teacher at the YMCA. She was very active with the Girl Scouts and was a leader and a lifeguard at Whispering Hills Camp. Her nickname was Giggles (Gigs for short). We will always remember her giggle and laugh!
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Ron in 2009.
She is survived by her three children, Robyn (Kevin) Iversen of Byron, Scott (Tina Bell) Macal of Austin, and Heatherly (Tracy) Schmit of Austin; her brother, Jay (Margene) Fennell of Petosky MI; her grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Hanah, Amber, Nick, and Samantha; and great grandson, Weston.
Thank you to those who cared for Mom at Comforcare.
A private family graveside service is planned. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
