Jackie David Sershen, 85, of Austin, Minnesota died at his residence on Monday, January 21, 2013. He was born December 21, 1928 in Waseca, Minnesota to John and Alice (Clarke) Sershen. He spent his childhood in Waterville and Elysian, Minnesota and Los Angeles,California. Jack served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict in the US Navy. He was in the National Guard and then the Merchant Marine of the Great Lakes where he worked on an iron ore boat. He was married to Helen Schaefer in Austin, Minnesota on October 31, 1949. They had three sons. Jack enjoyed boxing, snowmobiling, camping, fishing with his children and grandchildren. He worked for thirty-five years in Albert Lea at Streator's as a tool and die maker, eventually retiring as superintendent. He began his second career of fishing at his second home at Lake Winnibigoshish. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, brother and great-grandchild. Survivors include his wife Helen of the home, sons: Michael (Connie) Sershen, Dennis (Linda) Sershen and Randy Sershen, grandchildren: Tiffany, Jon, Shawn, Bridget, Heath, Michelle, Rod, Nicole, James, Shaanan, Mindy, Kevin, Danielle and Todd, great-grandchildren: Therin, Aries, Starker, Faith, Maddy, Aubrey, Jesse, Jared, Vatia and Marianna. A funeral mass for Jackie Sershen will be celebrated at 11:00a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church and from 4:00 until 7:00p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home.
