Irene Loretta (Reinartz) Miller, age 100, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, November 28, 2011 with her loved ones at her side, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center where she was a resident. Irene was born May 30, 1911 in Lansing, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Schnorenberg) Reinartz. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Augustine High School in Austin. After her graduation from high school, Irene went on to study at Winona State for her Teaching Certificate. Prior to her marriage, she taught in a one room school house in twin Lakes. Irene married Earl Miller in 1937. After raising their three children, she taught 5th grade at St. Augustine grade school in Austin. Irene lived in the Lansing and Austin areas her entire life until entering the Grand Meadow Assisted Living and later the Grand Meadow Care Center. Irene had been a very active, lifelong, devout member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was baptized, received First Communion, was confirmed and married there. Irene enjoyed her family, church, making rosaries, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. Survivors include her son, Richard "Dick" (Judy) Miller, Humboldt, IA; her son-in-law, Rodney Appel, Charles City, IA; nine grandchildren, Steve (Darla) Appel, Rosemount, MN, Sue (Ron) Dunn, Alta Vista, IA, Stacey (Julie) Appel, McDonough, GA, Scott Appel, Nora Springs, IA, Stewart (Melissa) Appel, Charles City, IA, Sandy (Dan) Clark, Ionia, IA, Sara (Steve) Robel, Charles City, IA, Gary (Karen) Miller, Oneida, NY, Teri (Daniel) Glynn, Grand Meadow, MN; 25 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1985; her son, Franciscan Brother Bruce "Donald" Miller; her daughter, Joanne Appel; five brothers, three sisters and their spouses. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 am on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes and Father Steve Peterson officiating. There will be a 5 pm CCW rosary and a 6:30 pm wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 pm and also from 10-11 am on Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
