Henry Otto Ubbens

Henry Otto Ubbens, age 89, of Lake City, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Lake City Care Center. Henry was born May 22, 1935, to Henry and Ida (Hoeper) Ubbens in rural Butterfield, Minnesota. In 1953, he graduated from St. James High School and went on to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1959. Henry was employed with Tony Downs Foods before starting his 30-year career in 1966 with USDA. While working for USDA, Henry lived in various places, before residing in Austin in 1982. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and was a longtime Dodgers fan.

Survivors include his dear friend, Barb Follstad and her daughter, Karin Ryan of Lake City, Minnesota; friends, Jeff and Angie Hughson, and their children, Mackai, Allie, and Brynn Hughson; sisters, Violet Kruse of Washington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ida Ubbens; brother, Harold Ubbens; sisters, Evelyn Ubbens and Laura Freitag; and brother-in-law, Ted Kruse.

A funeral service for Henry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Butterfield, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to recipient of donor’s choice. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin.
