Hazel Eleanor Egtvedt

Hazel Eleanor Egtvedt, was born October 17, 1926, in rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Almar and Mildred Helleck. She went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 98.

Hazel was the second oldest of nine children. They worked hard on the farm and knew how to laugh, have fun, and love each other. She attended country school, Blooming Prairie High School, and graduated from Winona Teachers College (now Winona State University). On June 26, 1949, she married the love of her life, Philbert Egtvedt. They raised five children and were together over 73 years until Phil’s death on February 16, 2023.

Hazel had a real spirit of fun and adventure - from jumping on the beds with the grandkids to taking a cross-country road trip, Hazel’s answer was “Yes!”. She loved books and reading, was a talented artist, and loved music and singing. She also loved children and worked in education for many years. Her Christian faith was evident to all who knew her.

Hazel is survived by her children, Ann Ayers, Philip Egtvedt, Karen Egtvedt (Duane Coleman), Julie (Chip) Guggemos, and Paul Egtvedt (Heather Wittstruck); along with grandchildren, AJ, Alan, Ashley, Alix, Lena, Claire, Ellie, Charlie, Annie, and Bjorn; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Remington, Phoenix, Evelyn, Josephine, and a baby due in June. She is also survived by her siblings, Dorothy, Connie, David, and Cheryl; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Phil; sisters, Arlene and Lorraine; brothers, Myron and Tom; and son-in-law, Art.

A family service will take place at a later date. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
