Gertrude Ellis

Gertrude Ellen Ellis, age 95, of Austin, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Sacred Heart Care Center. Gertrude was born September 19, 1917 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. After the death of her mother, the family moved to Iowa where family members could care for the children. After a few years, the family returned to Blooming Prairie where Gertrude entered school and graduated from high school. On August 12, 1936 she married Selmer Ellis. In 1944 they purchased a home in Austin where they lived and raised their family. Gertrude worked for Burr Oak Manor for 20 years, a job she liked very much. She was a faithful member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and was an active member in her unit and baked many pies to donate for activities in the parish. Gertrude enjoyed baking, putting puzzles together, reading, and playing cards. Survivors include six daughters, Karin (Carl) Hanson, Austin, MN, Mary (Dan) Malloy, Rochester, MN, Nina (Tom) Keefe, Fulshear, TX, Shirley (Bruce) Nelsen, Rose Creek, MN, Nancy Wittmer, South Range, WI, Janet (Garry) Weatherbee, Greenville, TX; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Snider, Blooming Prairie, MN, Lyle (Barb) Snider, Owatonna, MN; four sisters, Loretta Wurst, Blooming Prairie, MN, Rita (Bud) Schillar, Owatonna, MN, Merky (Ray) Standke, Owatonna, MN, Betty Jensen, Owatonna, MN; three sisters-in-law, Lorene Ingvalson, Austin, MN, Esther Hansen, Blooming Prairie, MN, Rosalie Majorowicz, Plymouth, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Selmer; two grandsons, Chad and Philip; three brothers; one sister; two brothers-in-law. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 5 pm CCW rosary on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 pm. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
