Florence "Flo" Ostergaard

Florence Catherine Ostergaard, 94, of Austin, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Florence “Flo” was born May 4, 1928 in St. Cloud to George and Marion Bursch.  She was the youngest of six children. Flo graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud before attending St. Cloud Teachers College. She went on to teach Physical Education at Cathedral, Pine City, and Henderson, MN before teaching at Pacelli in Austin.

On June 6, 1953, Flo married Richard Ostergaard at St. John Cantius Church in St. Cloud. They lived in Gaylord where children Mark and Carol were born.  The family moved to Austin in 1957 where Flo had children Mary, David and Amy.  Flo continued her teaching career at Pacelli High School teaching Physical Education, Algebra and Geometry while also coaching the cheerleading and pompom squads.  She loved her cats, playing cards and enjoyed her work with the catholic diocese.

Survivors include her son, Mark (Felicia) Eagan, MN; daughter, Carol Jones, Sauk Rapids, MN; daughter, Mary Stoltzner, Austin, MN; son, David, Farmington, MN; daughter, Amy Miller (John Lenway), Austin, MN; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Autumn, Venessa, Zac, Michael, Hannah, Joe and Elise; five great grandchildren, Bella, Lieni, Hazel, Teagan and Adley.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating.  There will be visitation from 5-8 pm on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the mass at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mower County Humane Society would be appreciated.
