Florence Sternhagen

Florence Pearl Sternhagen, age 93, of Rose Creek, died Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Adams Healthcare Center. Pearl was born February 19, 1923 in Lyle, Minnesota to William and Vera (Kaldenberg) Pitcock. She attended school in Elkton and Austin, where she went through the 8th grade. On March 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Joseph Emil Sternhagen. Pearl lived for a short time in California to be near her husband before he went out to sea while serving in the United States Navy. Pearl was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek for many years where she participated in many activities. She was an avid music lover who played guitar and loved to sing. Pearl passed on her love for music to her children. Later in life her talent for painting started as a hobby and turned into a business. She also spent many hours fishing with her children, grandchildren, and husband. Pearl traveled with bus tours extensively touring the United States. Survivors include her children, Bev (Rog) Brua, McHenry, IL, Patricia (Paul) Weis, Rose Creek, MN, Joe (Mary) Sternhagen, Rochester, MN, Kevin (Cheryl) Sternhagen, Wyoming, MN, Lona Sternhagen, Lime Springs, IA; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Delores Sternhagen, Marge Sternhagen, Evelyn Soukup, Ione Karlovitz; brother-in-law, Don (Jan) Sternhagen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; granddaughter, Alexandria Stanislawa Stec; siblings, Edna, June, Nell, William, Dutch, Ted, Tony. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Tom Loomis officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 pm on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Cathoic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
