Florence Lee

Florence Catherine Lee, 98, of Austin, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. Florence was born in Lodi Townshop, Mower County on March 26, 1916 to Matthew and Mary (Heimer) Schaefer. She attended school in Adams and was a graduate of Adams High School. After her schooling, Florence was a waitress in Adams for a short period of time. She then went to work for the George A. Hormel Food Corporation in 1942 and worked there for 29 years until her retirement in March of 1971. On September 17, 1955 Florence married Russel Lee at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Florence was a very friendly person who had a wonderful sense of humor and had a lot of friends. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, walking, playing cards and spent time up in Baudette during the summer with her family. Russel died in November of 1999. Florence is survived by her children, Lenore McCutchen of Austin, Eugene (Nilsa) Etzig of Austin, Roger (Melba) Etzig of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ron Lee (Susan Knutson) of Lyle; grandchildren, Arlene Roque, Gene Etzig, James Etzig, Trista Etzig , Allison Groenwald, Chad Etzig and Ryan Lee; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bernice Malaczewski of Milwaukee, WI, Lucille Hanson of Austin, Richard (Lois) Schaefer of Baudette, Duane (Jan) Schaefer of Rose Creek; many nephews and nieces, particularly Margaret Srsen and Barbara Mattick for giving Florence special care during her illness. Florence is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Steven and siblings, Adeline Hanson, Don Schaefer, David Schaefer and Orin Schaefer. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Mayer Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.
