Eugene Murphy

Eugene Leo Murphy, 96 of Austin, went to meet his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2018. Eugene was born to Bernie and Lela Murphy July 7th, 1922, on the kitchen table at the family farm in Lyle, MN. He grew up on the farm with his six brothers and two sisters as the years went by. Eugene married Bernice Messall at St. Augustine Catholic Church on July 11, 1943. They lived in Austin for 45 years, moved to Texas for 16 years and returned to Lake City, MN, where they lived when Bernice died on January 14, 2002 at the age of 78. Eugene joined Hormel in December, 1944 and retired in 1984 after 40 years.In his free time, Gene enjoyed spending time in Lake City, fishing, playing cards, gardening, visiting friends and particularly spending time with all of his numerous grandchildren. Eugene will be remembered as kind, gentle, caring and a loving family man and grandpa. Eugene is survived by 5 daughters; Joyce (Larry) Mueller, Austin, Judith (Joseph) Krebsbach, Austin, Carole (Thomas) Kroc, Madison Lake, Bonnie (Paul) Johnson, Dawn Ferguson, Florida; Numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters Norma Keller and Jeannine Kellogg. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents Bernie and Lela; wife Bernice; grandchildren, Troy and Theresa Mueller; brothers Elton, DeWayne, Dale, and Doug, He will be greatly missed by all A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
