Eugene Gerber

Eugene William Gerber, age 88, of Austin, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Cedars of Austin. Eugene was born November 15, 1924 to William and Mary (Puettman) Gerber at their home in Taopi. He attended school in Adams and helped on the family farm until he joined the Army. After his time in the service, he started working at the Hormel plant. He met and married J. Charlene Flink at Queen of Angels Catholic Church on the 25th of August 1947. They have had a very happy and blessed lifelong marriage of 65 years. Survivors include his wife, Charlene, Austin, MN; daughter, Diane (Donald) LaVallie, Austin, MN; son, Gregory (Bonnie) Gerber, Austin, MN; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Gerber, Kasson, MN; 10 grandchildren, Debbie Getchell, Lisa Aden, Jacob Gerber, Adam Gerber, Derek LaVallie, Kristin Guneri, Ben LaVallie, Richard LaVallie, Tim Gerber, and Jenna Sanchez; 16 great grandchildren, Sierra, Garrett, Nate, Owin, Olive, Osa, Jae, Autumn, Summer, Mina, Celestina, Elizabeth, Alice, Jacob, Lexie, and Bryce; siblings, Ed (Gert) May, Adams, MN, Stan (Stephanie) Gerber, Salem, OR, Marie (Doug) Behrenfeld, Sequin, WA, Norb (Helen) Gerber, LeRoy, MN, Dave (LaVonne) Gerber, Rochester, MN, Paul Gerber, Point, TX; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, James Gerber; and three brothers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
