Elizabeth Wempe

Elizabeth "Betty" Wempe, 92, beloved mother of Margaret Vogel and grandmother of Megan Vogel died December 24, 2012 at Adams Health Care Center. She was born on February 2, 1920 in Bancroft, Iowa to Hugh and Mae Lattimer. She married James 'Jim" Wempe on April 13, 1944. They had three children: Meg, Bill and Jane. Betty belonged to St. Edward's Catholic Church. Her joys were doing needlepoint and helping others. She worked as a telephone operator for AT&T for 30 years. She did voluntary work at the Philomathian Gift Store, Sacred Heart and St. Edward's. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim of 65 years, daughter Jane Goggin and sister Marjorie Lattimer. Betty is survived by a daughter Meg Vogel of Rochester, son Bill ofCalifornia, a granddaughter Megan Vogel and sister Helen Ringsdorf. Funeral services for Betty Wempe will be held at 10:30a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raptor Center: 1920 Fitch Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55706, or the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota or visit someone in a nursing home. The family wishes to thank the staff at Our House Memory Care and Adams Health Care for all of their kindness and care. Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
