Edward Michael Carroll, age 95, of Austin, went home to the Lord on Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home where he was a resident. Edward was born July 4, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois and moved with his brothers to Austin as a young boy. He graduated from St. Augustine High School. Edward married the love of his life, Leona Marie Winkels on August 31, 1940 in LeRoy, Minnesota. Together they raised 10 children in Austin. They were active members of Queen of Angels Church and later St. Augustine's. Ed was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad in 1975. He enjoyed golf and bowling, but more than anything winning at a good game of cards with his children and teaching his grandchildren how to play. Edward and Leona also enjoyed traveling to visit all of their children and many other beautiful places in the United States. Survivors include nine children, Sister Mary Carroll OSF, St. Paul, MN, Ed (Patty) Carroll, Exeter, CA, Gloria (Merlin) Paulson, Rochester, MN, Bill (Linda) Carroll, Aitkin, MN, Marlene (David) Gronholz, Appleton, MN, Rose Carroll (Jerry Saperstein), Evanston, IL, Joann (Ken) Dibble, Medical Lake, WA, Christine (John) Schneider, Green Bay, WI, Sarah (Brian) Miller, Austin, MN; brothers, Frannie Carroll and Jim Carroll; sister and brothers-in-law, Florence Carroll, Marvin and Mary Winkels, Betty Bissen and Irene Theis; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leona; son, Gilbert Carroll; grandson, Troy Carroll; great grandson, Ethan Carroll; brother, Raymond Carroll; an infant sister; his parents. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 7 pm KC Rosary on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 pm. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.
