Douglas Heine

Douglas Eugene Heine, age 96 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020, at The Cedars of Austin. Douglas was born in Spring Valley, Minnesota, to George and Margaret (Mills) Heine on October 28, 1924. He attended rural Spring Valley Schools. On April 15, 1945, Douglas was united in marriage to Belva Ardelene Rudlong at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. On July 25, 1945, he enlisted into the United States Army Air Forces and served until November 27, 1946. Following his honorable discharge from the service, the couple moved to Austin, where he began his long career with Hormel Foods. In 1961, Douglas and Belva moved to their hobby farm near Grand Meadow, Minnesota and then in 1970, moved back to Austin. In 1985, he retired from Hormel Foods after 38 years. Douglas was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He enjoyed his garage and working with wood, iron, fixing motors, and woodcrafts. Douglas also liked hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Belva Heine of Austin, MN; son, David (Vicki) Heine of Claremont, MN; daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Kenitz of Hollandale, MN, Trudy (Rick) Heimermann of Austin, MN; six grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Randi Heine of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Heine; three brothers, George (Mary) Heine, Larry Heine, Dale (Pat) Heine; and one sister, Norma Nelson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral home is limited to 57 people for the service. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Masks, social distancing, and all COVID-19 protocol will be enforced. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to recipient of donor’s choice. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
