Donald Ludwig

Donald L. “Don” Ludwig, age 85, formerly of Austin, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home in Rochester, following a courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his family. Don was born February 17, 1929 in Grand Meadow, Minnesota to Wallace and Winifred (Halstad) Ludwig. He grew up in Austin. On April 9, 1949 he married Lorraine Meister at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. They made their home in Austin, Lyle, Waseca, and Rochester. Don worked at Hormel until his retirement in 1986 and he also farmed. Don loved his family and enjoyed fishing and camping. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the Season’s Hospice staff for their compassionate care. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Lorraine Ludwig, Rochester, MN; three daughters, Sheryl Rawn (Norm Anderson), Lyle, MN, Susan (Jim) Kisro, Rochester, MN, Debra Pompey, Rochester, MN; two sons, David (Nancy) Ludwig, Austin, MN, Steven (Bonnie Krowiarz) Ludwig, Austin, MN; son-in-law, Craig Huinker, Austin, MN; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Huinker; two sons-in-law, Clarence Pompey and David Rawn; infant granddaughter; brother, Earl Ludwig; sister, Lorraine Hanson. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00 pm on Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.
