Dona M. Jacobson, age 90 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Dona Mae Snell was born on October 13, 1928 in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Geo and Esther (Johnson) Snell. She grew up in the Austin area and graduated from Austin High School in 1947. On November 5, 1949, Dona was united in marriage to Don Jacobson in Austin. The couple resided on a farm near Blooming Prairie, where they raised their two children, daughter Cindy and son Lynn. She loved her role as homemaker, wife, and mother. In 1972, Don and Dona moved to Colorado, while there Dona worked as a restaurant hostess. Don passed away in 2001 and Dona moved back to Austin in 2003. Dona enjoyed afternoon rides in the country and loved to go shopping. In 2014, she moved to Heather Haus Assisted Living in Blooming Prairie due to complications from Alzheimer's and in January of 2019 moved to Prairie Manor. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Stan) Lindquist of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Esplan of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Cody (Madison) Lindquist of Duluth, Minnesota, Shanna (Shawn) Iverson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four great grandchildren, Nathan, Sophia, Payton, and Bresley; brother-in-law, Bob Barker of Evergreen, Colorado; sister-in-law, Joan Snell of Chicago; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Geo and Esther Snell; husband, Don Jacobson; son, Lynn Jacobson; brother, Robert Snell; and sisters, Hope Buringa, Ann Barker.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. It was Dona’s wish that she be part of the Mayo Clinic Brain Donor Program in hopes that this research will provide a future cure for dementia related diseases. Services are prearranged and performed with Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
