A much-loved son, brother and uncle, Dale Richard Slindee passed away March 27, 2025, with his family present. He was born November 27, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota, where he resided most of his life. He attended Sunnyside School and graduated from Austin High School in 1957, where he studied carpentry and excelled at making and refinishing furniture. He went to college at Austin Area Vocational-Technical School (now Riverside Community College). Dale served in the Minnesota National Guard in 1961.
Dale worked at IBM in Rochester from 1965 for 28 years in the warehouse distribution center. In 1993, he retired but continued to work in maintenance at Hormel Foods for 5 years, after which he and his brother, Norman, formed Normandale Lawn Services for 10 years until 2008.
Dale was a wonderful companion to his brothers, a devoted son to his parents, and a beloved uncle. He loved fishing, automobiles, gardening, home repairs, and maintenance. For years he participated in family trips to Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada for fishing and shore lunches as well as Winnebago and Slindee reunions. He loved Nut Goodies and red flowers. His taste in music ran to Gaithers Gospel singers on TV. Dale was a dog lover and a feeder of birds. Dale R. Slindee was a hard worker and gallant soul who had to bear advanced dementia in his last year.
He is survived by his brothers, Norman and Darwin, Darwin’s wife, Patricia (nee Frischer) and his three nephews, Stephen, Sean, Sean’s wife, Vicki (nee Vacha), and Scott. He was preceded in death by father, Selmer and mother, Sylvia (nee Schuett) and two brothers, Ronald and Merlin.
A private interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
