Clair Francis Allen

Clair Francis Allen, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville, Iowa. Clair was born on April 2, 1930, in Grand Meadow Township to Charles and Laura (Overkamp) Allen. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1948. In 1951, Clair enlisted in the United States Army. He served our country as a Private First Class, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War. Clair was honorably discharged in 1953. On January 30, 1954, Clair was united in marriage to Bonita Olson at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. The couple was blessed with seven children. Clair worked for Hormel for 40 years as a smoke house operator until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and traveling. Clair loved all sports and stayed current with whichever sport was in season. He was known as a leader, trustworthy, and responsible; Clair was well known and respected in the community. He was very gifted in math and would provide financial advice to his children when they were growing up. His work ethic was admirable, and his children inherited this trait. He was a proud supporter of the Grand Meadow Superlarks. He was also active on the Grand Meadow High School reunion committee and the school’s historical committee. Clair was a member of the Eagles, VFW, and the American Legion.
