Charles “Chuck” Wilmer Hemann, age 70, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at his home. Chuck was born June 16, 1954, in Osage, Iowa to Willie and Helen Hemann. Chuck graduated from Austin High School in 1974. On August 23, 1980, Chuck was united in marriage to Joan Kemmerick at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Together they made a home in Hayfield, MN and had two beautiful children, Chad and Holly. Chuck and Joan would eventually divorce. Some years later, Chuck would meet and marry Maria Del Carmen Melendez, with whom he maintained frequent contact with after they were divorced.
Chuck enjoyed attending stock car races, county fairs, and demolition derbies. He loved bowling, the Minnesota Vikings, and collecting bald eagle figurines. Other passions included fishing, turtle trapping, listening to CCR and the Beach Boys, and building model cars. His favorite color was black, and he could be seen wearing black cowboy boots. Chuck found joy in watching Chuck Norris movies, scary movies (the scarier the better) and watching Dark Shadows with the Webers. He especially loved his bearded dragons and iguanas. Chuck took them out and about into the community on his shoulder, wanting people to enjoy them as much as he did. He even took them to the nursing homes for the residents to enjoy! Most of all, Chuck loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, talking on the phone with them, and spending time with his sisters and their families. Chuck was a very kind and compassionate person who would befriend anyone and help them, if needed. Chuck worked most of his life in sanitation and custodial positions, with Walmart being the most recent. He was always interacting with customers and assisting them in any way that he could.
Chuck is survived by his son, Chad Hemann (Heather Trump); daughter, Holly (Jeff) Lathrop; grandchildren, Grayson Hemann, Noah, Izaiah, and Jordyn Lathrop. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon (Jim) Walters and Suzanne (Joe) Ferris; nephews and nieces, Jason (Becky) Walters, Jesse (Carrie) Walters, Sara Walters, Audrey (Cory) Nelson, and John (Jenna) Ferris; and great nieces and nephews, Jack, Skye, and Jude Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Helen Hemann; brothers, Bobby and Gary; and sister, Kathy.
A visitation for Charles will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville, IA. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
