Cecelia M. (Burckhard) Madson, age 94, of Austin, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie. Cecelia, the seventh of 13 children of Johanna and Frank Burckhard, was born in North Dakota on March 19, 1916. She married Larry L. Madson on September 3, 1938. The couple moved with their family to Austin, Minnesota in 1951, and worked hard to establish themselves. Cecelia was a cook and baker at Nelsons in Austin, and other eateries, and was known for her pies. She was also an accomplished seamstress. In her spare time, Cecelia liked to sew, bake, work on crafts, and read. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Cecelia was a loving and hard working matriarch for her family. She had a wry sense of humor, and will be remembered with gratitude and love. Cecelia is lovingly held in the hearts of her children, JoAnn Swank, Austin, MN, Ken (Carol) Madson, Cedar Falls, IA, Arlene (Chuck) Garrity, Naples, FL, John Madson, Green Valley, AZ, Cindy Lord (Tommy Demers), Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Dean Swank, Kolleen Kiser, Amy Swank, Penny Swank, Valerie Madson, Greg Madson, Joe Madson, Dan Madson, Ken Madson, Angie Madson, Jack Madson, Conal Garrity, Spencer Garrity, Nicole Stence, Sara Lord, Eric Boyle; three great grandchildren; sisters, Lena Schepp, Devils Lake, ND, Bette Zych, Milwaukee, WI; brother, Alex (Isabel) Burckhard, Bloomington, MN; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Madson; son-in-law, Leo Swank; five sisters; four brothers. The family will have a private service celebrating Cecelia's life.
