Carl Einard Hanson

Carl Einard Hanson, age 101, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato. Carl was born on December 20, 1923, in Marcus, Iowa, to Carl “Hugo” and Lillian (Nelson) Hanson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1943. After graduation Carl was employed by the railroad in Fairmont, Minnesota, and worked at the depot for five years until he was released due to the Great Depression. During this time, he met Helen Neuenschwander and the couple was united in marriage on July 4, 1948, in Fairmont. Together, Carl and Helen returned to Austin, and he began working for Streverling Dairy, first on the farm for two years and then delivering milk and other dairy products for eight years. After leaving the farm, Carl was employed by Austin Public Schools for many years until his retirement in 1986. During this time, he spent six years as the business manager for the United Auto Workers, Local 867. Carl enjoyed traveling around the United States and internationally with Helen. He also enjoyed cruises, woodworking, and taking his grandson fishing. He will be greatly missed.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Helen; daughters, Judy Hanson of Savage and Linda Ehmke of Austin; and grandson, Scott Ehmke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lillian; and sisters, Doris Draayer and Bernice Jech.

A memorial service for Carl will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
