In 1958, Burton joined the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1959. He was united in marriage to Ardis Lind on March 28, 1965, in Minneapolis. The couple enjoyed hosting two foreign exchange students, one from Finland, Aki Kontturi, and one from Germany, Tom Kielhborn. Both men continued to be an important part of their lives. Burton will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
