Alberta Gavin

Alberta (Hangge) Gavin, age 79, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center. Berta lived in Austin all of her life attending Queen of Angels grade school and Pacelli (then St. Augustine) High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Gavin, and they were happily married for 49 years. An active member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, she served as Funeral Coordinator for a number of years and was involved in many of the activities with the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. Survivors include her children, Larry Gavin and wife Patricia, Lisa Gavin-Cruse and husband Virgil, Patrick Gavin; grandchildren, Fergus Gavin, Isaiah Cruse, Annalisa Cruse and Vernon Gavin; brother, Edward Hangge and wife Virginia; sisters, Lucille Cress and Anne Grund. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon on April 24, 2003; three brothers and one sister. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.
