Frank R. Williamson, age 94 of Blooming Prairie, MN, died Friday, September 7, 2018, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. Frank Richard Williamson, Jr. was born in Chicago, IL on September 17, 1923, the son of Frank and Maybelle (Hansen) Williamson. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Austin High School (Chicago) in 1941. After graduating, Frank served his country from 1942 until 1945 by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard assigned him to the USS Harveson, a U.S. Navy destroyer escort charged with protecting Allied supply convoys in the North Atlantic against German attack. During the middle of World War II, Frank married the love of his life, Margaret Watson, in Oak Park, IL, on August 10, 1944. After the war, Frank started working toward his lifelong dream of becoming a farmer. He and Margaret moved to a Lemont, IL, in 1947 to work for a farmer. The couple later moved to Sandwich, IL, where Frank worked for another farmer. Jill, the couple’s first child, was born there. In 1950, Frank and Margaret moved to Belvidere, IL, to rent a farm. They bought a farm in that area in 1958. During their years in Belvidere, Frank and Margaret had three sons: Terry, David, and Mark.

Frank wanted to expand his farming business, which brought the Williamson family to Waltham, MN, in 1968. After moving to Minnesota, Frank joined First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie and became active in the congregation through serving on the church council and volunteering for countless other activities. Frank also enjoyed attending USS Harveson reunions throughout the country, hosting family and friends on the farm, and traveling. Frank and Margaret remained on their farm until 1998, when they retired to a new home in Blooming Prairie. While Frank missed farming, he found new activities during his retirement to find fulfillment, such as joining the local Lion’s Club and golfing. Frank’s beloved Margaret required around-the-clock care after a series of falls and she moved to Prairie Manor Care Center in 2012, where she resided until her passing in 2016. During Margaret’s time at Prairie Manor, Frank’s devotion never wavered and he spent the majority of his waking hours visiting and comforting her. Frank’s own health began deteriorating in 2014, when he moved to the Heather Haus Assisted Living facility in Blooming Prairie. Frank will forever be remembered for his knack for storytelling, humorous, yet gentle nature, selflessness, and loyalty to friends and family, near and far. The love and care Frank showed for Margaret also serves as a source of inspiration to his family and friends.

Frank is survived by his children Jill (Terry) Gamlin of Huntington, IN, Terry (Diane) Williamson of Cottage Grove, MN, David (Shelley) Williamson of Woodbury, MN, Mark (Debra) Williamson of New Brighton, MN; grandchildren Michelle (Todd) Dischinger of Crosslake, MN, Brian Gamlin of Huntington, IN, Scott Gamlin of Huntington, IN, Eric Williamson of Cottage Grove, MN, Nathan Williamson of Ramsey, MN, Michael Williamson of Denver, CO, Andrew Williamson of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren Drusilla Dischinger, Luke Dischinger, Justin Erikson, Kenzie Gamlin, and Kylie Gamlin; sister Barbara Carter; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, parents-in-law Jenny (Conroy) and Clyde Watson, and brother-in-law, Dr. Earl Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with Pastors Dick Hegal and Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
