Obituary

Donald J. “Butch” Miller, age 73 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. Donald John Miller was born on August 24, 1944 to Donald and Myrtle (Fink) Miller. Butch attended St. Augustine Parochial School in Austin, and graduated from Austin High School. In 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his 1967 honorable discharge he began a long career at Hormel Foods of Austin, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Butch loved spending time with his family. His daughter Brenda meant the world to him; she was always taking good care of him. He will be remembered as a jokester and prankster. Butch loved Minnesota sports; his favorites included the Vikings, Twins, Gophers and woman’s sports. He was an avid hunter, mostly deer, pheasants and ducks in both Minnesota and Iowa. Generously and selflessly, Butch gave the gift of organ & tissue donation to help save and heal lives.

Survivors include his daughter Brenda (Bruce) Oakland of Austin; son Brian Miller of Austin; grandchildren Nicholas, Crista, Nicole, Amber, Candus, Codie; his great grandchildren; 2 sisters Diane LaRocco of Tacoma, Washington, and Debbie Adams of Portland, Oregon; 5 brothers Gary (Terri) Miller of Rockwell, Iowa; John (Mary) Miller of Austin; Dave (Linda) Miller of Austin; Steve Miller of Austin and Brad Miller of Austin; sister-in-law Lynn Miller of Austin; best friends Larry Hanson, and Ron Howard; and his dog Oreo. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Myrtle Miller and his brother Bill.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. The Miller Family will be greeting friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin with Military Honors.
